Dorset Wild Ones holiday club is a school holiday adventure club that provides a safe, informative, and fun outside environment for children to learn, play and explore. By taking part in a range of activities such as bushcraft, fire-making, gardening, nature crafts, shelter building, and wildlife workshops our children and young people will learn a range of skills whilst improving their confidence, risk-taking, and communication skills while having lots of fun.

Location

We are based at Wooders Campsite in Bere Regis, which is on a working farm with a wonderful woodland to explore.

Our Approach

Our aim is to encourage everyone to step away from the screen, spend time outdoors and get active. As well as improving physical health, studies show spending time outside is essential for positive mental health too. There is so much to explore here in Dorset, Wild Ones will stimulate interest and provide a range of activities that will reconnect children with nature and their environment. Children who want to make a positive difference to the area can take part in creating wildlife habitats, clearing woodland, and litter picking among other activities.

Part of the Forest School ethos is allowing children to learn to manage risk for themselves as this helps them to grow in confidence and learn how to look after themselves. We include the children in planning activities and give clear guidelines on the use of tools and equipment. We encourage them to care for themselves, each other, and the environment.

Activities

We offer a wide range of activities, these include:

  • Pond dipping
  • Clay workshops
  • Jewellery making
  • Knifecraft
  • Firecraft
  • Den building
  • Gardening
  • Wildlife workshops
  • Story telling
  • Team games
  • Art workshops

All of our activities will be age-appropriate and the club will be divided into age groups (Wildlings and Wild Ones) when needed. The older children may enjoy learning skills such as knife craft, fire craft, slackline, and advanced bushcraft.

We do repeat some activities, but if your child has previously taken part in something we will adapt the lesson and give them something else that with further their skills.

While we have set some fixed activities, we will be led by the children and will happily adjust the activities if they would prefer to do something else. If your child would like to try something in particular, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. We will always have a quiet craft area to run alongside the main activity and we have a huge bank of games to play daily too.
